Raising the Standard of Real Estate Development around the World

9 – 9:20 am     Film – A Quiet Revolution – Stories from India & Kenya

Narrated by Academy Award-winning actress Meryl Streep, and featuring interviews with UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan and other experts, the film's primary message is that even one person's action can make a dramatic difference.

9:20 – 10:50 am          Session I – The Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC)

ECOSOC addresses the world’s economic, social and environmental challenges. A founding UN Charter body established in 1946, the Council is the place where these issues are discussed and debated, and policy recommendations issued. ECOSOC has broad responsibility for some 70% of the human and financial resources of the entire UN system, including 14 specialized agencies, 9 commissions, and five regional commissions.

11:05 – 12:30 pm Session II – UN-HABITAT

The United Nations Human Settlements Program (UN-HABITAT) is the United Nations agency for human settlements. It is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities with the goal of providing adequate shelter for all. The Global Housing Foundation works with UN-HABITAT to develop slum improvement programs.

2 – 2:10 pm     Film – Generation Waking Up – Generation Waking Up is a global campaign to ignite a                                             generation of young people to bring forth a thriving, just, sustainable world.

2:10  – 3 pm                Session III – UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE)

The UNECE Real Estate Market Advisory Group developed the Policy Framework for Sustainable Real Estate Markets with the assistance of FIABCI in 2010. The Framework sets out the principles for fully functioning and well real estate markets. The Framework offers institutional advice on issues such as the establishment of financial markets backed by real estate as collateral, harmonized valuation standards for real property and transparency in investment risk assessment.
